GODHOOD promotional poster

Music by: Craig Barnes

About:

GODHOOD details the interactions between Riff, a young writer, and his original character, Avadra, who suddenly and inexplicably manifests herself in real life through circumstances unknown! Knowing what his character is capable of and fearing the worst, Riff sets out to masquerade as one of her followers in an attempt to prevent the very events he wrote about from taking place.

The gameplay revolves around attacking enemies to the rhythm of the music in order to build up flow, unleashing massive explosive attacks on down beats to defeat hordes of enemies in a single blow. Players can switch between rhythms depending on the given situation and can even defy the rhythm if the moment demands it, but true power lies within the explosive attacks and to perform them, you need to keep your cool.

Jan, 2024 Update:

To whoever might be reading this, I'd like to provide some closure. Given how long it's been, I figured I should formally state that this game is very much cancelled. I recently made the decision to retire my personal game engine, and my tastes have changed a lot (somewhat) since this game came out as well!

For the past few years, I've mostly been shifting my attention to just working on my art which you can find over on twitter in case you're interested. I've picked up Godot recently though so we'll see if I'm able to get back into the swing of things then.

To those who enjoyed GODHOOD, thank you so much for your support. These project is happy memories for me, and your enjoyment is a part of that. Thank you!

Very fun and cool but it crashed. Are you still working on the game? Its really cool so far!

I like the idea, its just that you cant get a good rhythm  because while you are trying to get a good rhythm going another dog thingy just jumps behind you and attacks you from behind, also while I'm trying to stay on the beat while dodging i finding myself just spamming the z key because it  is impossible to stay on the beat while worrying about dodging moving and timing all at the same time. Its a good idea, but it would be better if beats weren't so thin and fast.

(1 edit)

hello there I'm jet, and I work for a Channel called BRAWLERS  AVENUE were we promote, Talk, and play Beat 'em ups and Hack N slash. So from that said... Stay tuned :) because were going to post this up soon!!  BTW! :)  I like your name Infact I'm going to give you this link to trying to show the Developers of Gekido that people want it back by making a WIshlist on Gog.com trust me they know about it because when i posted on their facebook they liked the idea.

This is really cool! Saw its on hiatus but would love to see its dev continued. I can't imagine how this could not have gotten a stellar reception though.

Wow, thanks a lot!

Believe me, I would love to continue working on GODHOOD too, but time is just not on my side at the moment! Some time in the near-ish future, I'll get back to it though and I've got plenty of improvements in mind for it too.

Thanks again!

I really enjoyed the game, even in its unfinished state, to the point that I played it for multiple hours. But after looking around for a while, I couldn't really tell if you were planning on continuing work on GODHOOD anytime soon, or ever. What are your plans, if any, that you have for GODHOOD?

Wow! I'm really flattered that you enjoyed the game that much. A few hours in the little amount of content I had is probably the most I've ever seen anyone get out of the game so it really puts a smile on my face!

Regarding continued development, I'm afraid since GODHOOD didn't get nearly the traction I had hoped (which is pretty much what I expected so I'm cool with it), I've had to put GODHOOD on an indefinite hiatus while I basically catch up on life. I would love to keep working on it (and I really miss working on it too) but now that I'm pretty much working full time, development would be glacial and the game probably wouldn't see release until half a decade from now. I do still think about it a lot and if I ever did find the time to work on it full time again, I have a lot of new ideas and improvements in mind for it too!

In the mean time, I have been toying around with the idea of working on other, shorter titles! Right now I'm sort of warring it out between two ideas I have and hopefully I'll be able to pick one soon so I can get back in the swing of things.

Thanks for your comment though! It's really uplifting to know that even a year after it's release, this game still entertains people!

So when I opened the game, it had me calibrate, or whatever that was. Audio Lag was 0, so I clicked continue. I went into practice mode, but it wasn't recognizing any of my hits, and was saying I was missing. I adjusted my settings, went back into Practice Mode, and it crashed.

Hey! Thanks for giving the game a try. I'm kind of surprised people still find it actually after all this time so it's a pleasant surprise really!

Unfortunately, I just tried out the issue you were having and it seems to be working fine on my end. I think I might have an idea of what's causing your problem (playing a lot of different rhythm songs kind of messes with the game's "BeatMaster" as I call it) but sadly, it might take a long time for me to get around fixing it due to my current workflow. Sorry :S

If you REALLY want to try the game out, you can go to the media folder, open the config.cfg and add this line if it's not already there:

<AudioLag value="150"/>

You can then change the value here where "value" is the audio lag in milliseconds. That's a lot of work though, so I definitely understand if you'd pass, haha.

Thanks for giving GODHOOD a try though!

game don't work on itch app

Hey there! Thanks for reminding me about the itch app because I hadn't actually tested the game on there before. Unfortunately, I just tested it on my system and it seems to be working as expected. If the game isn't working then there's probably a different reason for it.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly didn't work. Did nothing happen when you pushed the "Lauch" button or did an error pop up?

Either way, thanks for letting me know!

I just tried it again, it it works now. I have no idea why it didn't before.

I think I might know what issue you had. Right now, there's a very small chance that the game actually crashes on startup and I've had a real tough time tracking it down. You might have just gotten unlucky and got it on your first launch.

Hopefully I'll catch it some day!

Hey, this game looks fucking amazing. Are there any possibilities of being released on Mac platforms? Thanks.

Fortunately, the way I programmed GODHOOD, porting it to Mac (and Linux) is very much possible, however, it'll still take some work on my part. Part of that work is unfortunately actually buying a Mac so sadly it might be a while, but it is definitely something I want to look into!

Thanks a lot!
